BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

February 18, 2010

MINUTES

 

 

 

1.  CALL TO ORDER  - Vice-President Schwader call= ed the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

 

2.  PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE   

 

3.  ROLL CALL

 

Members present: &= nbsp; Mr. Klyber, Mr. Newlan, Mrs. Potts, Ms. Schwader, and

Mrs. Vang= unten

 

Members absent: &n= bsp; Mrs. Pool and Mr. Norvill

 

Others present:  Channel 22 Representative; Dr. Marx, Superintendent;

and Mrs. = Wertz, Teacher

4.  CITIZENS REQUEST/PUBLIC PARTICIPATION  -   Mrs. Wertz discussed the request

   &nbs= p;        from faculty members to have Parent/Teacher Conferences in October 2010 on two days. 

   &nbs= p;        The requested schedule would be on Thursday from 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Fr= iday from

   &nbs= p;        7:00 – 11:00 a.m.

5.  APPROVAL OF MINUTES=

 

A.&n= bsp;    Approv= e minutes of the January 26, 2010 regular meeting.

 

Motion by Vangunten, second= ed by Newlan to approve the January 26, 2010 minutes of the regular meeting.  Motion carried.

 

B.&n= bsp;    Approv= e the executive session minutes of the Jan. 26, 2010 regular meeting.<= /b>

 

Motion by Potts, seconded b= y Klyber to approve the executive session minutes of the January 26, 2010 regular meeting.  Motion carried.

Motion by Klyber, seconded = by Vangunten to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.  

On roll call, the following= votes were recorded:

7.  SUPERINTENDENT/PRINCIPAL  REPORT 

 

  1. =   We will have a kick-off assembly on Friday, Feb. 19th followed by Disability Awareness Week pertaining to disabilities and assistance.  Robein stude= nts will

      be encouraged to collect chan= ge as a donation to Easter Seals.

  1.   All students and staff will be asked to respond to 2 questions:  What do you like about Robein School?  What would you like to change= at Robein School?  The data will drive improveme= nt in the areas

      of Teaching & Learning, Student Progress & Achievement, and Learning Community.=

  1.   Mid-Illi= ni Educational Cooperative will provide a workshop entitled Instructional Practices Inventory (IPI) training.&n= bsp; IPI provides a valid picture of learning and instruction across= a school, while maintaining anonymity of classrooms and teachers.  The purpose of IPI data is to assess student engagement through

      a snap sho= t of each classroom. 

  1.   We also need to differentiate between teacher managed behaviors and office managed behaviors.  Lastly, we mu= st develop lesson plans for consistent instruction throughout the building.  Input from fac= ulty and staff members will be requested during our School Improvement Day = on April 30th.  

 

8.  COMMITTEE REPORTS   - Mr. Newlan used a power poi= nt presentation to display possible

   &nbs= p;        options and related costs for purchase of a school security system.

 

9.  OLD BUSINESS AND INFORMATIONAL

     

      A.  First reading of the 2010-2011 sch= ool calendar.   

      B.  RtI data from Fall 2009 to Winter = 2010

      C.  Robein FY10 Financial Profile Designation

10.  NEW BUSINESS

 

A.     Approv= e to employ Mr. Aaron Suchocki as the track coach for spring 2010.

Motion by Newlan, seconde= d by Potts to approve to employ Mr. Aaron Suchocki as track coach for spring 2010.  On roll call, the following votes = were recorded:

 

  YEAS:           Pott= s, Vangunten, Newlan, and Schwader

  NAYS:           Klyb= er

  ABSENT:      Pool and Norvill

 

B.     Approv= e for an 8th grade Algebra class at Robein for fall 2010. 

 

Motion by Klyber, seconde= d by Vangunten to approve for an 8th grade Algebra class at Robein for fall 201= 0.  On roll call, the following votes = were recorded:

 

  YEAS:           Vang= unten, Klyber, Newlan, Potts, and Schwader

  NAYS:           None=

  ABSENT:      Pool and Norvill

 

11. OTHER BUSINESS 

 

A.&n= bsp;    Approv= e to share responsibilities and revenue of concession sales with Riverview and St. Pat’s Schools at the IESA Class A State Track Meet for the next 4 yea= rs (contract ends 2013). 

 

Motion by Potts, seconded= by Newlan to approve to share responsibilities and revenue of concession sales with Riverview and St. Pat’s Schools at the IESA Class A State Track Meet = for the next 4 years (contract ends 2013).&nbs= p; On roll call, the following votes were recorded:

Motion by Van= gunten, seconded by Klyber to enter into executive session at 7:13 p.m.  Motion carried
